From the quarry to the material crushing treatment to the cement plant, the entire cement manufacturing process is more complicated. Moreover, the raw materials are highly abrasive and the processing temperature is very high, so different processes require different cement conveyor belts.
Raw material extraction/ quarry
The limestone, clay or marl that is blasted in the quarry is poured into the primary crusher by the dump truck.
The material from the quarry enters the jaw crusher for primary crushing, the maximum size is about 6 inches (150 mm). The crushed material falls on one or a series of belts and is transported to the stockpile.
The crushed limestone is still relatively large and sharp, so the conveyor belt has to withstand the impact and wear of the falling limestone. To ensure the safe operation of the cement conveyor belt system, we recommend the use of an impact-resistant conveyor belt (the carcass is a multilayer fabric and a steel breaker).
Due to the characteristics of the cement industry, the distance between the quarry and the cement plant is relatively long. Broken limestone is usually transported to the cement plant by conveyor belt, so the conveyor belt must cover a long distance. We recommend using steel cord conveyor belts.
After the primary crushing, the limestone is crushed for a second time to make the size less than 6 inches (150 mm) until it is crushed to less than 1 inch (25 mm) for storage and proportioning.
Storing and homogenizing
Crushed limestone and other raw materials (such as sand, clay, fly ash and shale) are transported to the raw material storage area and then mixed in the required ratio.
The most common method of making cement is through the dry process.
The mixed materials are fed into the mill (vertical mill/ball mill) dry and crushed into fine powder. It is recommended to use abrasion-resistant rubber conveyor belts to transport materials.
During the material handling at the above stages, the conveyor belt cover will frequently agglomerate. Due to the high cost of cleaning and procurement, installation and maintenance of belt cleaning systems or scrapers, it is recommended to use anti-stick conveyor belts. Its unique anti-stick coating prevents cement auxiliary materials from standing on the belt.
The high-temperature treatment steps include preheating towers and kilns, heating the crushed raw materials and sintering mature materials.
The fuel for cement calcination includes coal and petroleum coke. Fire-resistant and oil-resistant conveyor belts should be used when transporting fuel.
The temperature of the clinker entering the Clinker cooler drops rapidly. The cooled clinker enters the clinker storage through the belt conveyor. However, the clinker temperature after cooling is as high as 200 degrees Celsius, and high temperature will accelerate the aging of ordinary belts.
The Rayco heat-resistant conveyor belt is very suitable for transporting hot clinker. Its rubber cover is super heat-resistant and can withstand peak temperatures up to 220 °C, thereby protecting the conveyor belt carcass and prolonging its service life.
